Nearly all burial and cremation records for the Angus unitary authority in Scotland have been made available online.
Deceased Online, the pay-per-view website that aims to be the central database for UK burials and cremations, has issued the following news release:
“Deceased Online, the UK’s first online database for statutory burial and cremation data, is delighted to announce that it has added more than 80,000 records and nearly 70 more cemeteries from the Angus region of eastern Scotland.
“Deceased Online now holds almost 200,000 burial records for Angus Council dating as far back as 1630 and right up to the present day. This represents nearly all of the Angus burial records and the remaining few will be added over the coming weeks.
“At a launch event at the historic Glamis Castle in mid-September (more information about this will shortly be included in the ‘News’ section of the Deceased Online website), Angus Council and Deceased Online celebrated the fact that the region is the first in Scotland to place all its burial data on Deceased Online.
“Online researchers can immediately view lair (grave) details and register page scans for all burials. For two of the larger cemeteries, Kirriemuir and Newmonthill which have 40,000 burials between them, maps which indicate the exact location of individual lairs (graves) have also been uploaded. Deceased Online users may print or download up to three map enlargements which provide pinpoint accuracy of lair locations. Maps for all the other Angus cemeteries will be uploaded on to Deceased Online over the coming months.”
