More than 150,000 Dorset marriage transcriptions have been made available online.
The subscription website British Origins has added to its online databases over 150,000 Dorset marriages from 1538-1856. These have been transcribed by Somerset and Dorset Family History Society from parish registers, bishop’s transcripts, and non-conformist circuit registers.
British Origins says that the online records are of the actual marriages (rather than the reading of banns or issuing of licences) and that more than half a million names are searchable, including those of witnesses.
