I find the Online parish Clerks (OPC) such as : http://www.opcdorset.org/ really useful
I signed up (cost 35 euro) to FamilyRelatives.com to get the Waltham Holy Cross,/Waltham Abbey parish registers (which I had been seeking for some time). I found that it was a descriptive account of the records, not the actual parish registers (subsequently identified as a 1880s book by Williams Winters – already available online elsewhere for free). Within a couple of hours of payment I sent an email requesting cancellation – repeated a week later. No reply. The parent company (Treequest) has an address in Jersey (presumably a mail-box address), with a phone number which rings out.
Please Mr Robert Woods (PR Manager for Treequest) when you read this – respond.
Hi Roy
You can view images of the baptisms, marriages and burials for the church of Holy Cross and St Lawrence at Waltham Abbey from 1563-1713 free of charge at Seax – Essex Ancestors Online http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/displayParishContents.asp. The Essex Record Office says it’s “currently exploring options to make more of these records available digitally.”
Best regards
Alan
Hi Alan,
Thank you for that great link. I have been to the SEAX catalogue many times, but did not know there were online images. I can start searching backwards – from early to later – I will have to wait ’till they make post-1713 available. Unfortunately, I am not in England, and rarely would have a chance to get to Essex.
Thank you again.
Roy
