S&N Genealogy’s website The Genealogist has added a number of new databases, some of which are available only to top-level ‘Diamond’ subscribers.
Sue and Nigel (the S&N of S&N Genealogy) say:
1911 census
“We have now added the first county of the 1911 census. The transcripts provide more detail than any previous census and contain over 193,000 records. The images on TheGenealogist are twice the resolution than have been available online before for 1911. The records have been integrated into our existing search tools, so you can access the transcripts using our House and Street search, Keyword Master search and Family Forename search.
“The Buckinghamshire transcripts include the former Tory Prime Minister Anthony Eden, age 13 with his fellow scholars at Eton College, and the nephew of Benjamin Disraeli living at Hughenden Manor which he inherited on his uncle’s death.
“This is the first time that high resolution colour images have been provided online. Currently the offerings have been highly compressed images which suffer from various digital artefacts which mar the image. TheGenealogist.co.uk have optimised the images using in house techniques to produce superior and fast loading results.
“We are currently working on the next county which will be London, to follow shortly.”
Parish record transcripts
“We have added over 230,000 individuals to our Parish Transcripts for Nottinghamshire, expanding our coverage and bringing the total to over 319,000 individuals. With years ranging from:
- Baptisms: 1800 – 190;
- Marriages: 1538 – 1900;
- Burials: 1767 – 1901.
“We have also added over 3,000 individuals to our Parish Transcript for Devon, expanding our coverage and bringing the total to over 66,000 individuals. With years ranging from:
- Baptisms: 1594 – 1944;
- Marriages: 1538 – 2009;
- Burials: 1593 – 2009.
“In addition, we have added over 44,000 individuals to our Parish Transcripts for Worcestershire in partnership with Malvern Family History Society, expanding our coverage and bringing the total to over 716,000 individuals.With years ranging from:
- Baptisms: 1730-1849.”
Pre-1841 census records
“We have just launched two new pre-1841 censuses for Marylebone in London: 1821 & 1831 detailing the surname of the head of household & street name. To search these new records, simply select the london census from the research view and then change the year to 1821 or 1831.”
Scottish 1851 census
“For the first time, our subscribers can access a selection of the 1851 Scottish census records. The results will provide Forename, Surname, Age, Relation, Profession, Birth County, Birth Parish, Area and Street. You can search these records by Name, Age, County, Birth Place and Street. This record set contains approximately 59,000 entries. You’ll find these records in the British & International section of your research view.”
Australian transportation records
“We have also launched the Convict Transportation Registers 1787-1867 with details of over 123,000 of the estimated 160,000 convicts transported to Australia during the 18th and 19th centuries. These are transcripts with access to images.
“The records are mainly of those convicted in England, Wales and Scotland, but also include a small number of Irish convicts. The database also includes soldiers who had been court-martialed and sentenced to transportation. These ‘soldier convicts’ may have been convicted in various British colonies, including the West Indies, Canada, India, and Pakistan. You’ll find these records in the British & International section of your research view.”
