Find My Past is adding millions of British newspapers to its website.
Find My Past says: “The British Newspaper Collection will contain millions of newspaper pages for titles all over Britain, adding colour and context to your ancestors’ lives. Full subscribers will automatically get access to all the newspapers when we launch the collection in the next few weeks.”
As the Find My Past sites are owned by brightsolid, which also runs the British Newspaper Archive website in partnership with the British Library, one would imagine that the British Newspaper Collection will have the same content as the British Newspaper Archive.
I did ask Find My Past the other day if that was going to be the case, but I haven’t had a reply yet.
I have now heard from Find My Past who say: “Within FMP we have access to a wide and varied range of records, giving what we believe is exceptional value for money. The access to British Newspapers is just one element of this which the customer can benefit from.
“Whilst this access is now available on the FMP site, the British Newspaper Archive will still operate as a separate site and customers who already have a subscription for that can still use that on the BNA site.
“BNA access within FMP will also be slightly different from that of the BNA site. We have approximately 95% of those records and the search criteria is also different.”

Does anyone know how to access the newspapers from within the FMP site?
Hi Sue
The newspapers aren’t on the FMP website yet. FMP says they’re coming in the next few weeks.
Alan
Thanks for the update….keep up the good work, you provide an invaluable newsletter, very much appreciated
Hi Sue (and Everyone)
The newspapers are now available on Find My Past.
There are some differences to the search facilities on the British Newspaper Archive site. On FMP, you can search by year, whereas the BNA lets you narrow your search down to a single day. Also on the BNA, you can specify an individual newspaper to search, which FMP doesn’t let you do. What FMP does allow (as does the BNA) is searching by county of publication.
Best wishes
Alan
I can’t print from FMP nor can I copy or paste and saving the record is no good as it’s html. So I downloaded some of them but the save document is never the same as the one I was downloading.
Hi Paul
Peter Calver has some comments on saving newspaper articles from the FMP website in his Lost Cousins Newsletter dated 18 November, which you’ll find at http://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters/midnov12news.htm. Hope this helps.
Best regards
Alan
Newspapers are not on the World FMP site, only the UK one. Booooo!
