Cheshire church record transcriptions have recently been updated.
The free LDS FamilySearch website has recently updated its collections of Cheshire bishop’s transcripts 1598-1900, non-conformist records 1671-1900 and parish registers 1538-2000.
The site also holds Cheshire school records 1796-1950 and registers of electors 1842-1900. None of these collections contains digitised images.
Hello,
How do I go about ordering the death record of a relative?
I found it in Family Search Cheshire Parish Records from 1538 to 2000.
Many thanks, Cathy Taylor
Hi Cathy
If the person died from 1837 onwards, then you can either:
(a) search for the death on the Cheshire BMD website at http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk and order a certificate through the site, either by printing out the application form and sending it by post or, for some registration districts in Cheshire, ordering online;
(b) as not all post-1837 deaths are on the Cheshire BMD site yet, you can search the death indexes free of charge at http://www.freebmd.org.uk (up to about 1935-ish) or at the subscription/pay-per-view websites http://www.ancestry.co.uk, http://www.findmypast.co.uk, http://www.familyrelatives.com, http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk or http://www.bmdindex.co.uk. Then you can order the certificate online from the General Register Office at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates.
If the death was before 1837, then there’s no certificate that you can order, as the entry in the parish register is all that there is.
Best wishes
Alan
