Thoroton’s History of Nottinghamshire is now accessible online.
British History Online has made the history available on its free website. First appearing in 1677, and re-published by Throsby in three volumes a century later, it has been described as the first and greatest county history of Nottinghamshire.
The first volume covers the parishes of the hundreds of Rushcliffe, Bingham and Newark, while the second covers the city of Nottingham, Sherwood Forest, and the parishes of Broxtowe hundred. The third volume details the parishes of the hundreds of Bassetlaw, and Thurgarton and Lythe. In each volume, Thoroton’s original text is followed by that of Throsby.
